IN CONVERSATION

A morning in the workshop with Auntie Adzoa.

She arrives before the rest of us and has already decided what is wrong with yesterday's work. Auntie Adzoa oversees the Osu atelier and has an opinion about all of it — the pitch of a collar, the temperature of the iron, the way a junior cutter holds the shears.

We sat with her for a morning in July, between the first press and the lunch that is always later than planned. What follows is not an interview so much as a record of what she said when we stopped interrupting.

If you cannot see the mistake, you are standing too close. Step back. Then unpick.
