Why we chose Belgian linen, and what took us so long.
We did not start with Belgian linen. We started with what we could get, and it was not good enough. Flax takes a climate, a mill, and a finishing process that cannot be improvised. We visited three houses before we found one that could tell us, without a brochure, where the fibre had grown.
The linen we use now is washed before it reaches us. That is why it already looks as though it has been lived in. We would rather you received it that way than pretend a new garment has no past.
